About Lisa

A petite Italian girl originally from New York, Lisa Corrao grew up in Fort Lauderdale where she became a Middle School Teacher who would later snap.  No longer wanting to deal with the raging hormones of preteens, Lisa decided that it would be easier to put an end to the world’s stupidity from a stage.  With her sweet smile and slightly evil sense of humor, she left teaching and began standup comedy as a semi-finalist in Nick @ Nite’s “Funniest Mom in America” contest.  It would be the kick start to her new career.

Growing up, standup comics were held in high regard in the Corrao household.  While her mom unknowingly slept, Lisa’s dad would let the kids stay up late to watch the comedians on Carson and Letterman.  Standup comics were her heroes.

Lisa’s kindergarten teacher had commented that she had never before met a 5-year-old who was genuinely funny.  Wanting to be like her heroes, apparently, Lisa would “kill” right before nap time.  She has always been addicted to making people laugh.

As an adult, Lisa decided that she might need a “real” job and a steady paycheck for awhile, so she decided to teach Middle School.  After 5 years of teaching, she felt that it was time to move on and follow her dream.  Not to mention that one day, while teaching sex ed and giggling at the pictures, she realized that she was much too immature to be supervising children.  After a distressed phone call to her father on a particularly bad day at work, Lisa proclaimed that she wanted to become a standup comic.  As her dad belted out a huge laugh, she suddenly realized she’d be a natural.  Lisa refers to this moment as an epiphany…others might call it a nervous breakdown.

As Lisa Corrao took the stage for the first time and gazed into the brightness of the lights, she felt overwhelmed by the joy of creating a room full of laughter, and she knew she had found where she belonged…following her dream as a standup comic.

Watch out for stray Hippos in your neighborhood!
